Two young children narrowly avoided being killed by an angry mob on Friday in the Dugbe area of Ibadan, Oyo state, after allegedly breaking into a store.
They were arrested by the store owners in Dugbe.
Yusuff Olaide and Tunde Badmus, the juvenile suspects, claimed to live at Agbokojo, an area in Ibadan. The children who pretended to be scavengers allegedly constantly rob their stores without being caught, said a witness who requested anonymity.
With Radio Nigeria’s prompt intervention, which resulted in a call to the police, the mob was about to lynch the juvenile suspects.
Our reporter verified that police had arrived on the scene and had sent the suspects to the Iyaganku Police Station for additional investigation.
The Police Public Relations Officer for the State, Mr. Adewale Osifeso, claimed in an interview that prompt police action prevented a potential jungle justice. Some of the shop owners, according to our correspondent, expressed regret for recent shop thefts.
