The abduction syndicate tormenting sections of the state, particularly in and around Jabata village in Ogbomoso and Iganna in the Iwajowa local axis, have been caught and paraded by the Oyo state Police Command.
Among the parading suspects were the alleged kidnappers of Dr. AbdulRasheed Oladoye and Christopher Taiwo Bakare on the 16th and 22nd of July at Jabata and Gbede villages via Ogbomoso axis, respectively.
The State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Adewale Osifeso, addressed journalists at the Police Command Headquarters in Ibadan on Friday, July 29.
Speaking on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, CP Adebowale Williams, he said that the arrest of the suspects was part of the command’s resolve and determination to purge the state of criminal and unscrupulous elements.
Abdullahi Mohammed, a 42-year-old suspect, admitted to the crime to journalists and said that he has been a member of the abduction ring for the past two years.
The suspect further acknowledged that he and his group are based in Oyo state’s Iganna neighborhood of Iwajowa local government.
One Dane gun, N12,000 (just twelve thousand naira), one spent cartridge, and garment materials were the items the police were able to seize from the suspects.
The suspects include Anjola Abubakar (25years), Sani Abacha Abdullahi (28years), Sani Abacha Jafaru (26years), Sale Mohammadu (25years), Isah Seriki Muhammed (25years), Aliu Jafaru (50years), Umar Abubakar (34years), Mustapha Baruguma (20years) and all male.
Other suspected members of the kidnapping syndicate paraded include UmarJale Usman (56years), Abdullahi Mohammed Sani (42years), Jamiu Jibril (45years), Kayode Kolade (35years), Leggi Usman (35years), Jamiu Iroko (30years), Sule Bello (20years), Umar Shuaibu (20years), Kali Weti (29years), also all male.
The state Police Command’s security architecture has been modified, according to CP Adebowale Williams, the commissioner of police, to ensure improved and sufficient protection for all inhabitants of the state.
He said, “The Command in a concerted effort with communal partnership with sister security agencies and other non state actors have been able to collectively meet up with the yearnings and concerns of the people of Oyo state regarding existing and emerging security challenges including robbery, defilement, and kidnapping.
“To this effect, the command today paraded the abductors of one Christopher Taiwo Bakare (male) and Dr AbdulRasheed Oladoye (male), who were kidnapped on 16th and 22nd of July at Jabata and Gbede villages respectively via Ogbomoso axis.
