Oyo State Government has commenced distribution of reflective jackets to commercial motorcyclists in the 33 local government areas of the state.
Flagging off the ceremony at Western Hall, Parliament Building, Secretariat, Ibadan, Governor Seyi Makinde implored commercial motorcyclists and other stakeholders to support the state government in sanitizing the sector.
Governor Makinde who was represented by the Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Professor Musibau Babatunde, said the step became imperative to rid the state of Criminal elements under the guise of Okada riding
The governor explained that enforcement of the jackets would take place after expiration of the evaluating period.
The Chairman, Oyo State Road Transport Management Authority, OYRTMA, Retired Major Adesagba Adekoya, pledged readiness of the agency to deal with any refute commercial rider.
Speaking on behalf of commercial motorcyclists unions in the state, Chairman, ACOMORAN, Comrade Solomon Olugbode, urged members to reciprocate government gesture by adhering to the usage of the jacket.
The reflective jackets which were distributed freely to fifteen thousand okada riders in Oyo State have security features, including a barcode containing rider identification.
