Immediate past Residents Electoral Commissioner, Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, in Oyo state, Barrister Mutiu Agboke has said that the transportation of men and materials during next year’s general election in the state might be a problem with the ban on NURTW.
Recall that the Oyo state governor, engineer Seyi Makinde banned the operation of the National Union of Road Transport Workers in the state and was replaced with the Park Management System, PMS
Barrister Agboke disclosed this while addressing journalists at the INEC office as part of activities lined up for his valedictory programme.
The former Oyo INEC boss whose five years appointment expired on the 6th of July, 2022 said “the problem of mobility is usually created by the NURTW, now that we do not have NURTW any longer in Oyo State, the commission will have to source for vehicles elsewhere to move men and materials on election day”
“The late arrival of men and materials at the polling units is a major problem to successful election in Oyo State” He said
He further noted that “The commission will take a decision on it as at when due”
Barrister Agboke also highlighted late payment of adhoc staff and insecurity as some of the major election obstacles.
Agboke is expected to be replaced by new Resident Electoral Commissioner in Oyo State as the build up to the 2023 electioneering progresses.
